Professional Process for Installing 419 Bermuda
Step 1: Clear the Area Thoroughly
We begin by completely clearing the installation area of debris such as rocks, roots, weeds, and old grass. This crucial step creates a clean foundation so your new Bermuda sod can root properly without competition or obstruction.
Step 2: Professional Soil Preparation
We prepare the soil by loosening it with professional equipment. Proper soil preparation allows Bermuda grass roots to penetrate deeply, promoting stronger growth, better water absorption, and long-term durability.
Step 3: Expert Sod Installation
Our team carefully lays the Bermuda sod starting along the longest straight edge of your yard. We install the sod in a brick-pattern layout, staggering seams to create a tight, interlocking surface. Each piece is leveled and tamped to ensure a smooth, even finish that looks natural and professional.
Step 4: Immediate Deep Watering
Once the sod is installed, we water it immediately and thoroughly. This step is essential to help the roots begin bonding with the soil underneath, reducing stress and jump-starting the establishment process.
Step 5: Critical First Two Weeks of Care
For the first two weeks, the sod must be watered daily. We guide you on proper watering techniques to keep the grass consistently hydrated and prevent the roots from drying out during this critical phase.
Step 6: Ongoing Maintenance Guidance
After the initial two weeks:
Water three times per week for the next two weeks
Gradually reduce watering to twice per week, depending on rainfall
Avoid over- or under-watering, which can damage the roots
We also recommend applying a slow-release fertilizer 6–8 weeks after installation to encourage strong, healthy growth.
Step 7: First Mowing at the Right Time
Mowing should wait until the sod has fully rooted. Once you can gently tug on the grass and it feels firmly “tacked” to the ground—usually 3 weeks in summer or 4 weeks in winter—it’s ready for its first cut. We recommend mowing Bermuda grass to a height of 3/8″ to 1″ for best results.
